What catastrophes are covered by your Indiana business insurance policy? Running your business without the proper protection could lead to you having to close your doors due to financial troubles. Consider the natural disasters the Hoosier State faced in 2008.

According to the Office of Community and Rural Affairs, Indiana was hit by 3 federally declared disasters. The first occurred in January. Heavy rains in the northern part of the state led to flooding in more than 20 counties. In June, over 50 counties experienced flooding along with the destruction brought by tornados. Just a few months later, September brought more flooding as well as wind damage to another 38 counties.

In 2008, Indiana received about $562 million in disaster assistance, by far the state’s most expensive year for natural disasters on record. The state arranged more than 8,000 evacuations, including those made by water. The storms caused damage to an estimated 5,600 houses. During these calamities, over 17,000 people requested help from the Federal Management Agency. In reply, the organization offered $50+ million to flood victims.

What will you do if the New Year brings a difficult weather season like the one Indiana suffered through in 2008? Do you have the funds to repair your business? Could you afford to lose weeks of income? Should you have answered “no” to one or both of these questions, you should strongly consider purchasing  Indiana business insurance policies to cover the range of risks your business could face.
